Naomi Prospectus

Attached, please find a serigraph of Naomi, nude, a character from the story-graphic, Krome, a further experience. She is issued free of charge to holders of Krome and is not for sale. Your print number coincides with the number on your copy of Krome. I hope she pleases you.

There are two editions of this print. The smaller one has been issued to holders of Krome. A larger edition is available at a cost of $15 per print. Its size is 11x19 inches on a sheet of quality antique white paper, 20x26 inches, and has been produced in a run of 35 copies only.

The print varies slightly

from the smaller edition; a broader range of grays are employed and her yellow tresses are lined with gloss light blue.

The magnitude of her size is the

true difference in the two editions and some may find that the larger print will better suit their needs as a wall hanging.

Sincerely,

Joseph T. D'Ambrosio

Phil Bevis says the announcement of this book was printed in Joe’s garage.

This Vandercook SP-15 is now in the Chatwin Arts Gallery in Seattle across the street from Arundel books. Phil Bevis says that for a while it was in Joe D'Ambrosio's garage and used by him.

Vandercook Letterpress

Name: Gladys

Serial Number: 22324

Model: Vandercook SP-15

Temperament: Fun, Flirty, Likes to Dance

Age: 62(1962)

Arundel Press was founded with this press in 1984 by Phil Bevis in Los Angeles, CA. Working with people like Harry Reese, Jerry Lange, Robin Price, William Everson, Clayton Eshleman, Lindsay Hill, Nathaniel Tarn, Barry Moser, Mark Strand, Philip Levine, Sonia Sanchez, Edward Field, Arundel Press established itself as a fixture in the LA book arts scene of the 80's and early 90's.

This SP-15 is one of the rare hand-inked, un-motorized models, which are extremely desirable due to their extremely precise inking. It is notable for the flowing motion the printer often experiences with the cylinder while printing. Working with this press has been described in dance-like terms, often referencing the tango, as opposed to the more muscular terminology applied to larger presses like our SP-20 and the heavyweight Vandercook Universal series.

Arundel moved to Seattle in 1995. This press was donated to the Book Arts Program at UC

Santa Barbara, and has recently made its way back to us, and is in the process of being reconditioned by Vandercook expert Paul Moxon.

The SP-15 is used for books, prints, broadsides, and anything one can print up to 14 ¾ x 20 inches. It is a delight to work with.

The Western Motion Picture was the first book published by Arundel Books which was founded in 1984 as a fine press publisher specializing in art and poetry. Phil Bevis continues publishing with Chatwin and Salmonberry books. His store in Seattle and his press have an independent mindset, with a select, diverse stock that is constantly changing and growing.
